Mothers Against Teen Violence, an anti-violence group from Erie, will hold its fifth annual Stop the Violence march and rally Saturday in downtown Erie.
Sonya Arrington, founder of MATV, said that, “My message is unity and coming together as a community…We’re so divided now, and that’s one of the reasons why we have all this violence in the community now.”
Arrington herself lost her teenage son in a shooting in 2010, and founded MATV shortly afterwards.
“If we stay behind our doors and do nothing, see nothing and report nothing to the police, then we’re as guilty as the ones who are doing the shooting,” she said. “If we stand together and become part of the solution, we can get some of this violence to drop.”
Rob Conroy of Ceasefire Pa is proudly speaking at the event.
