The NRA has used the same political tactic for years.  By only giving money to candidates that completely support a “no restriction” gun policy, the NRA has effectively prevented many common sense gun laws from passing in Congress.  As highlighted in Dan K. Thomasson’s opinion piece, the gun lobby finally has some real competition.  In coordination with Everytown for Gun Safety, Michael Bloomberg has pledged 50 million to support candidates that are committed to decreasing gun violence in America.  While Tomasson reaffirms that “nothing about this is easy,” “doubling the amount of campaign money being spent by the NRA to sway a Congress always for sale might not be enough, but it is a start.”
