Hoodie Rally
To mark the five-year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death, Metropolitan Community Church of the Lehigh Valley hosts a Hoodie Rally on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Bethlehem City Hall’s Payrow Plaza.
The Rally’s main speaker is Rev. Dr. Gregory Edwards, Pastor of Resurrected Life Church in Allentown. Other speakers include Rev. Dr. Larry Pickens, Ecumenical Director at the Lehigh County Conference of Churches, Brian Jones, Music & Worship Director at MCCLV, Kara Bender, Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training, East Stroudsburg University students and Dr. Sirry Alang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and Health Medicine and Society Program at Lehigh University.
A church community committed to inclusion and social justice, MCCLV created the Hoodie Rally as an opportunity for a “ministry of presence,” to stand in solidarity with young people of color, to publicly show love, respect and care. The rally ensures the legacy of Trayvon Martin and so many victims of social injustice are not forgotten.
