Southwest PA Campaign Organizer

CeaseFirePA is the Commonwealth’s organization working to end a gun violence epidemic that destroys the lives of thousands of Pennsylvanians every year through suicides, community-based violence, mass shootings, domestic violence, and unintentional shootings. We are looking for an organizer in the Pittsburgh region to expand our work to help drive the necessary change to end this bloodshed.

As the gun lobby continues to hold undue influence over our elected officials and fights every attempt to save lives, change must come directly from the people – an overwhelming and strategically organized public demand for strong gun safety policies at the local, state, and federal levels. Growing the power of the gun violence prevention movement throughout Allegheny County is key to effecting the systemic change that we need across Pennsylvania. The Southwest PA Campaign Organizer will be responsible for building that power in the region by expanding our grassroots network, deepening our coalitions, and holding elected officials accountable. You will be on the front lines of CeaseFirePA’s mission to ensure everyone can live a life free from gun violence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, train, mobilize, and continually inform and support community-based activists. You’ll teach supporters how to understand our gun violence crisis and motivate them to use their voices to take part in actions such as lobbying, letter writing, canvassing, and more to advance CeaseFirePA’s state-level and regional campaigns.
  • Build strong partnerships and coalitions. You’ll network with doctors, faith leaders, survivors, anti-violence leaders, law enforcement, veterans, and local officials to grow the gun violence prevention movement.
  • Change the narrative on gun violence prevention. By harnessing the power of storytelling, you’ll raise the voices of survivors, responsible gun owners, and public health officials to redefine our movement’s message.
  • Drive new community engagement strategies. You’ll work with our team to develop and implement strategies to raise awareness for gun violence prevention policies.
  • Advocate for policy solutions with decision-makers. You’ll lobby those in power by meeting with them and organizing protests, town halls, marches, and other engagement events to push them to be better on the issue of gun violence prevention.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated history of building close relationships with volunteers and allies
  • Compelling public speaking skills that motivate, persuade, and mobilize citizens to drive change
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and thrives on creating and implementing new projects
  • Strong time-management skills that allow you to hit specific goals while driving multiple projects and keeping your eye on the big picture
  • Willingness to travel and work throughout Allegheny County – driver’s license required, access to a vehicle is preferred but not necessary
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends and rapidly respond to breaking events
  • PLUS: Strong ties to the Pittsburgh-area community

LOCATION: Pittsburgh

BENEFITS: Salary range is $40,600-$44,000 per year, depending on experience. As a full-time position, the organizer is eligible for our excellent benefits package including full-covered health care and dental, paid time off, and 401(k) with 3% employer match.
