On Wednesday, Marcus L. White, Jr. would have celebrated his second birthday. But his life was senselessly cut short when someone fired shots into a family picnic on May 21. He was just fifteen months old. Pittsburgh’s City Council declared Tuesday, February 18 “Marcus Lamont White, Jr. Day” in the boy’s honor.
Three dozen of Marcus’s family, friends, and supporters were in chambers for the proclamation, including CeaseFirePA’s staffers Rob Conroy and Shanon Williams. Of the efforts to help his loved ones, Williams said, “We’ve been meeting every week on Tuesday. We’ve been rallying every other Saturday in different neighborhoods, to let people know we didn’t forget about Marcus. His life is not going to be forgotten, and he is not going to be gone in vain.”
Nine months after Marcus was killed, no arrests have yet been made.
